Cantor’s Defeat–Wittiest One-Liners

Eric Cantor’s shellacking has drawn much attention–perhaps two much commentary. (After all, this was just a primary.  I don’t think that it “Changes Everything.”)

That  said, here are my favorite comments on this event::

— “‘Brat Upsets Cantor’ . . . The headline sounds like a failed Bar Mitzvah” — Delaware Dem

On Tuesday night, Ezra Klein wrote:“John Boehner must be having an emotionally complicated evening.”

  1. I don’t think it means as much as the pundits think. Cantor’s district was extremely conservative thanks to gerrymandering. He ignored his constituents; dangerous.

This is just part of the last gasp of the Tea Party. Oh, Brat will win election. He may even manage to do some damage along the way.

But “victories” like this simply ensure that a Democrat will be in the White House in 2016.

  2. I totally agree.

Candidates who are as extreme as Brat simply insure that more Democrats and moderate independents will come out to vote in 2016. I think it is even possible that more Democrats will come out in the midterm election, and that Brat could lose. Though as you say, there are not very many Dems in this district; it was gerrymandered. Still, if Brat says something truly outrageous (which he could) people who rarely vote might come out to vote against him this fall.
